TVH – Park Villa, Thoraipakkam, OMR has 250 households and they are generating close to 300 kgs of waste everyday. There The residents and the association members are keen to implement the waste management solution in the community.

We conducted the ‘Green Ninja Warrior’ event close to 40 kids participated in the event along with their parents. The kids completed the activity sheet and learned all about waste management. The enthusiastic kids formed teams among themselves and determined to transform their community into a zero-waste Namma Green Community.

All the kids received the certificate, The kids were charged up after learning their role as Green Ninja Warriors.

Namma Team will be in touch with them to make the entire community a zero-waste community.

Ceebros Boulevard Apartments, Karapakkam, Chennai

Ceebros Boulevard Apartments, Karapakkam, OMR has 350 households and they are generating close to 300 kgs of waste every day. There is an energetic team in the community and they did their part in converting 200 households to manage their waste. One of the residents reached out to us for help to convert the rest of the 150 households to manage their waste.

We conducted the ‘Green Ninja Warrior’ event to reach out to the 150 households, 20 plus kids participated in the event, a few of them with their parents, 10 teams were formed amongst the children and they were given instructions to persuade the 150 households to manage their waste.

All the kids received the certificate, Ceebros association arranged a special prize for all the participants. The kids were charged up after learning their role as Green Ninja Warriors.

Namma Team will be in touch with them to make the entire community a zero-waste community.

Vaikund Sundaram Apartments, Karapakkam, Chennai

Vaikund Sundaram Apartments has 300 households and they are generating close to 250 kgs of mixed waste every day. One of the residents reached out to us and we organized our ‘Green Ninja Warrior’ event to create awareness amongst the kids and educated them on waste management.

About 30 kids participated in the events, a few of them with their parents. All the kids were given the certificate and they learned about their role as Green Ninja Warriors.

This is just the beginning at the apartment complex, and Namma Team agreed to support the volunteers in the Vaikund Sundaram Apartments to make it a zero-waste apartment.

Ragamalika Apartments, Medavakkam, Chennai

On Bhogi day, ‘Namma Ooru’ organized our Green Ninja Warrior Event in Ragamalika Apartments where there are 120 households and they are generating close to 100kgs of mixed waste every day. The idea is to empower the kids on waste management and within a month make the apartment a zero-waste apartment.

About 30 kids from various schools in the locality participated in the event, they all have taken up the responsibility to educate the residents on the importance of segregating the waste. Few parents and the association office bearers were present during the event. Namma Ooru volunteers are in touch with this apartment to make it a zero-waste apartment.

The Hindu Car free Sunday, Marina Beach, Chennai

Walkers, joggers, and families congregating at The Hindu Car-free Sunday on 10th December 2017 also saw Namma Ooru Foundation showcasing its message for people on the need and benefits of segregation and composting. A short skit with Cascade Montessori & Shraddha Children’s Academy kids on, ‘Bharathi in Singara Chennai’ was showcased.

The skit drove down the key points on the urgent necessity to be aware of what we trash and why we should segregate and the pressing need to compost. On the account of Subramanya Bharathi’s birth anniversary, Namma Ooru released a Sutru Choozhal Aathi Choodi as a Tribute to Bharathi. A designated team of waste management experts demonstrated the Namma Thooimai project (2 bin 1 bag and the Composting Kit) to the parents, more than 50 parents signed up to segregate and compost.

An activity for children focusing on using their knowledge of segregation, plastics, and the environment was conducted. More than 100 children from Shraddha Children’s academy, Cascade Montessori, Harishree Vidyashram, Sankara Vidyashram, and many other schools participated in the 2-hour event. Children were given recognition certifying them as’ Green Ninja Warriors’.

We look forward to engaging more in building a thriving ecosystem of environmentally conscious adults and children, waste management companies, and institutions in making our city ‘Garbage free’.
